Forced closure of an RPA in Lévis: the owner incomprehension

The Résidence des Sages in Lévis will have to close its doors no later than May 20, a decision by the CISSS that its owner and several residents have difficulty understanding.

The CISSS de Chaudière-Appalaches withdrew the operating permit for this RPA without specifying the precise reasons which led to this decision.

“The situation at the Sages residence did not correspond to expected standards and was considered unacceptable for the establishment,” indicates the CISSS in a statement.

“Despite the intensive monitoring carried out since June 2023, it had to issue a notice of revocation of the operating certificate,” we add.

For his part, the owner of the residence, Christian Trottier, is incomprehensible.

He confirms having had numerous discussions with the CISSS regarding bringing his establishment up to standard, but indicates that all the measures that needed to be taken have been put in place.

“When we come to buy a residence, we invest a lot of money, we invest our lives in it,” says Mr. Trottier. We have 24 employees. We had our certification last year in May, straight away in June, nothing was working anymore, so there are questions to ask.”

This situation causes stress to many residents who are forced to move, as well as to their families.

“I don’t understand,” shares the niece of a resident. I asked, asked questions and we had a meeting on Tuesday with the president. I said “why are you closing?” and she told me “it’s private”, but yes, but the rest of us have been here for 18 years. There are others that it’s been 17 years. Why can’t they answer me?”

“She spoke to me in parables,” she continues. The way she spoke, there was carelessness, but frankly.”
