According to the biennial Iazi study, the German-speaking municipalities remain the most pleasant in Switzerland. Lutry (VD), ranked 13th, is the only French-speaking municipality in the top 30.

According to the study by real estate consultant Iazi, carried out every two years for the HandelsZeitungthe German-speaking municipalities remain those where life is best in Switzerland. Where are the best-ranked municipalities?

Of the 954 municipalities included in the study, i.e. all those with more than 2,000 inhabitants, those in central Switzerland continue to take the top spots. There are twelve in the top 20, including Meggen (LU) on the shores of Lake Lucerne, in the lead. It is true that the proximity of a lake seems to weigh heavily, particularly around the latter and those of Zurich, Zug, or Lake Geneva.

The only three other French-speaking municipalities ranked in the top 50 are located, like Lutry, on the shores of or not far from Lake Geneva: Pregny-Chambésy (GE), 37th, Genolier (VD), 44th and Mies (VD), 45th.

The French-speaking municipalities are doing a little better than two years ago, with none appearing in the Top 50. Of the four in the top 100, Pregny-Chambésy was in 63rd place and Lutry in 95th place. This year, there are a little more between 50th and 100th place, nine, most of them also close to Lake Geneva, with the exception of Crans (VS), 72nd, and Servion (VD), 95th.

Which municipalities are in the top 3?

Behind Meggen, Hergiswil (NW) and Oberkirch (LU) occupy the other two places on the podium. Both have gained more than 20 places compared to the previous year. The top two in the 2023 ranking have lost some ground: Cham (ZG) has dropped from second to fourth place and Zug from first to fifth. Six Zurich municipalities and one Graubünden municipality complete the Top 20.

Here are the flop 10 of Swiss municipalities

The Neuchâtel municipality of Val-de-Travers now occupies the last place in the ranking, succeeding Mümliswil-Ramiswil (Solothurn), which had been there for several years. Val-de-Travers is distinguished by the highest taxes in Switzerland, according to the ranking, poor transport links, a poorly structured urban organisation and a limited number of jobs for its 10,550 inhabitants.

The news in Switzerland is here

This Thursday, September 19, a conference on witch hunts in Romandie will take place in Fribourg. An opportunity to delve into the cantonal archives and browse the trials. Who were those accused of witchcraft? And what were they accused of? Report.

We have an appointment on the top floor of the Fribourg State Archives. It is in this office that Lionel Dorthe, historian, keeps part of the works that record the interrogations conducted in the city’s towers, from 15e in the 18th century. On the table sits an enormous book dating from the 17th century, which one hardly dares to leaf through. “My hands are clean,” he assures, touching the manuscript open to page 227. At the top, one can read the date: July 23, 1622.
