Quebec students have been in school for barely a month and not a week has gone by since the start of the year without witnessing violent fights all over the province.

In a video obtained by TVA Nouvelles, we see a first teenager from Fernand-Lefebvre secondary school violently attacking a young person from secondary school last Monday, at dinner time.

Adolescents will subsequently perform exemplary acts of courage. They decide to intervene at their own risk to defend the victim who is being mistreated. One of the young people who intervened to resolve this conflict peacefully will be surrounded by three other individuals who will beat him in the face until he falls to the ground.

He had to be hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries, including to the head.

“He has bruises and bumps on his head and he also has a split of about a centimeter,” the father of the courageous teenager described to TVA Nouvelles.

He is very proud of his son for his courage in saving the boy with two other teenagers. “I thank everyone for saving the little one,” he added.

“I find it awful”

A teenager also took the time to write to TVA Nouvelles to speak on behalf of several of his friends who are demanding an end to all forms of violence and intimidation at his school.

“I am a student at Bernard-Gariépy secondary school and I find the violence in my school appalling. This is not the first time this has happened,” he said.

For its part, the Sûreté du Québec arrested five teenagers aged 15 to 16 for assault causing harm. They were interviewed, then released for further procedures.

“Contrary to rumors circulating, the students involved did not have any weapons or dangerous objects in their possession,” assured the Sorel-Tracy School Service Center.

The establishment reiterated that no violence is tolerated in its establishments and that all required interventions have been made to the people concerned.
