The latest resignation was accepted by the Hautes-Alpes prefecture on July 23. The departure from the Château-Ville-Vieille municipal council of the third deputy mayor, Jean-Pierre Maschio, is forcing the Queyras commune to organize partial municipal elections this Sunday, September 22.

Before him, municipal councilors Myrtille Blanc (April 25, 2022), Anne Labiau (November 29, 2022), Bernadette Allais (December 1, 2022) and Mathieu Laurans (February 19) had already submitted their resignations. With five fewer members, the Château-Ville-Vieille municipal council has lost more than a third of its workforce, forcing a return to the polls to replace them.

Five resignations since 2022

Successive resignations for “personal reasons,” according to Mayor Jean-Louis Poncet. “These people have all changed their municipalities or departments of residence,” says the man who was re-elected for a second term in 2020.

Five candidates have been declared for this plurinominal majority vote (without a list) according to the Hautes-Alpes prefecture. Namely: Henry Hubert (former elected member of the municipal council and former deputy during Jean-Louis Poncet’s first term), Romain Berthier, Jean-François Martinet, Raymond Mathieu and Bernadette Allais. It should be noted that the latter is therefore running again, after resigning from this term in December 2022. “She had left the department, but felt a certain nostalgia for Queyras and returned to settle in Château-Ville-Vieille a few months ago,” explains Jean-Louis Poncet.

Candidates found or turned to the current mayor for these partial municipal elections. “Moreover, they are running under a grouped list: there will be only one ballot with the names of the five candidates on it,” says Jean-Louis Poncet.

The polling station, set up at the town hall, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Sunday, September 22. If necessary, a second round will take place on Sunday, September 29.
