Territoire de Belfort. Stop wasting heat from burning household waste

The idea is not new. It had already been developed about ten years ago, but it is tempting. For the moment, the heat produced by the incineration plant of the Territoire de , the Ecopôle in Bourogne, is lost. There are therefore projects to recover it and reinject it into a heat network.

Specialists from Grand Belfort estimate that it would be possible to recover up to 60 megawatts per hour in this way to produce heating and domestic hot water. Obviously, since the heat is already produced, this recovery would save fuel and waste in another boiler room.

Ten years ago, the project was abandoned because it was deemed unprofitable. Things have changed. Last June, the Greater Belfort urban council voted on a resolution authorizing the launch of a public service consultation to enable the creation, by 2028, of around fifty kilometers of networks transporting the heat produced by the combustion of household waste. 150 potential consumers have been identified around the Ecopôle, most of them are companies.
