Social bill rebels stop paying

Published today at 10:33 a.m.

They recently called to the Federal Council to win their case but do not stop there. The 31 Vaud municipalities in conflict with the Canton over their contributions to the social bill between 2019 and 2022, deemed “disproportionate” and detrimental to their autonomy, have stopped their payments, they say in a press release. Through this “strong symbolic action”, they want to get the government to “finally open a dialogue”.

“We are not opposed to the social policy of the Canton nor to a municipal contribution, only to the unreasonable and disproportionate amounts that we are called upon to pay,” declares the Rolle union member, Monique Pugnale.

Last summer, the Federal Court considered that the system put in place was not adequate and found a violation of the right of municipalities to be heard. The Canton had canceled its decisions for the years 2019 to 2022, by starting the procedure again while maintaining the same amounts.
