The first event of the year at the Jeanne-d’Arc cinema in Gourin took place on Saturday January 4, 2025, with the arrival of director Laurent Granier, on the occasion of the broadcast of his documentary “La grande traversee”. Laurent Granier shares his encounters during his hikes which took him from Porspoder to Menton, i.e. 1,800 km, covered in three months.
The effects of covid
“In 2020, I was seriously affected by covid and I left on the path to Compostel after the deconfinement, then on the path to Stevenson, in 2021. The great crossing, in 2022, was my first trip after recovery. I went to meet people to ask them what covid had changed in their lives. I met people who had completely changed direction, but the important thing for everyone was the revaluation of social ties, the rediscovery of freedom, the time for reflection,” says Laurent Granier, for whom these hikes are as much moments of introspection.
Sharing experiences
The audience, mostly made up of hikers, was delighted to talk with the director. The hikers shared their own lived experiences, or those that can no longer be lived. “I can’t hike anymore, but this film allows you to travel in your head,” remarked a spectator.
New project in Japan
In June, Laurent Granier will set off on the path to Shikoku, Japan. “It is a pilgrimage route linking 88 temples over 1,200 km. I’m going away for three months to meet the local population,” specifies the director.
