“I really didn’t expect it. I’m just in shock,” she declared at the start of her speech, very moved. “I have been doing this for a long time, over 45 years now and this is the first time I have earned anything as an actress. The 62-year-old actress took advantage of her speech to share a comment that could have made her quit her career. “30 years ago, a producer told me I was a popcorn actress, and at the time I conditioned myself not to be entitled to an award. I told myself that I could make films that made a lot of money, but that I couldn't be recognized. And I convinced myself and I believed it.”
“The universe told me it wasn’t over”
While she was “eaten up” by this comment for years, Demi Moore may well have never gotten her head out of the water. Until this day when the “bold and courageous” script of The Substance arrived on his desk. “The universe told me that it wasn’t over,” admitted the actress, on the verge of tears, before thanking “all the people who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself” .
“A woman once told me, 'Know that you will never be enough, but you can know what you are worth if you just put down the measuring stick.' That's why today I celebrate this reward as a marker of my wholeness and the love that motivates me. And to remind myself that I deserve it.”
