This month, 36 French startups enabled the ecosystem to raise a total of 391.4 million euros, propelling the average ticket to more than 10.8 million euros (compared to 9.6 million euros in November ). A month of December down compared to November (€649 million) and below the monthly average since January which is around 695 million euros.
An unsurprising result during the winter break but still far from the amount raised last year during the same period (€831.5 million), in particular thanks to the record raising of Mistral AI (€385 million). In comparison, the month of December in 2022 had recorded only 193.7 million euros.
In the details of the most financed stages in December 2024, the early stage appears timid with 24 start-ups and 9 series A, compared to 52 and 7 respectively in November. The most advanced series have also taken a hit with only 3 B series recorded (-2).
Energy at the top of the basket
This month, it’s the mega-raising of the startup Elyse Energy (€120M) which allows its sector to stand out. Energy thus closed this end of the year with a total of 124.2 million euros, which is much more than the monthly average for the sector since January which is around 25 million euros.
Very far behind, we find medtech with 53 million euros raised by 3 startups. The rest of the podium is occupied by deeptech (€42.3M), biotech (€34.5M) and entertainment & leisure (€30.1M).
The most spoiled Parisian startups for Christmas
In the detail of the regional ranking, Ile-de-France captured more than half of the funds raised this month (€212.4M). Note also that of the 22 funding rounds recorded in the Paris area, only 2 of them concern startups based outside Paris (€24M).
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes remains in second place with a decent gap with 122.1 million euros, once again thanks to Elyse Energy. Then the rest of the ranking drops drastically with 22 million euros raised by 2 startups in Occitanie. We then find Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (€17.6M), Normandy (€11.8M), Hauts-de-France (€4M) and Pays de la Loire (€1M).
