Eighth in the general ranking of the Cravache d’Or, Marie Vélon won a fifth women’s Cravache d’Or in a row. With 92 victories in 2024, the 25-year-old young woman will not have beaten her record of 99 successes established the previous season, nor won a Group I, but she will have been able to lead to success Iresine in the Prix Foy (Gr. II) and ride the Champion Stakes (Gr. I) at Ascot. “I am obviously very satisfied with my year 2024, comments Marie Vélon who is enjoying a well-deserved vacation. I have ridden for many different trainers and owners, who renew their confidence in me every year and I thank them for that. I hope to be able to continue to satisfy them in 2025 by remaining 100% invested. This 5e Cravache d’Or in a row is an accolade that is obviously close to my heart. Every year, I am lucky enough to be challenged by high-quality female jockeys and that can only force me to redouble my efforts so that each season is the best possible. I am aware of everything that each race run represents for those around a horse, since I was able to participate for several years in the life of the stable of my boss, Jean-Pierre Gauvin, whom I particularly thank. . It helps to highlight that it is important to retain the loyalty of a horse/jockey pair when it works, regardless of the category of race contested. My adventure with Iresine is an illustration of this. I also like to make myself as available as possible to work the horses in training, it’s important, and I would like to thank all the trainers who open their doors to me in the morning in Chantilly, like Francis-Henri Graffard and Jean -Marie Beguigné, among others. And thank you to my agent, Jules Susini, for his daily investment.”
In jumping, it is the Welsh Charlotte Prichard who wins the prize, for the third time, with 25 victories, including two group III successes at Auteuil with Ace Karre.
