franceinfo: We talked about your committed songs, one of the facets of your personality and the being that you have become.

Marc Lavoine : I don’t really like the word ‘committed’ actually. These are songs. They are still love songs. Engaged is a bit intellectual. Nathan for example, that I wrote for Calogero about an autistic child, it’s a committed song in a certain way, but it’s above all a love song. I still prefer that we stay in the love that we don’t understand, we don’t know what it is, but we pursue it every day, that we go looking for. We sometimes find it, too.

What struck the mark from the start was the love that you were able to convey through the writing of your songs. What we see is that women have always been very important in your life.

They are more numerous than us. There are 3% women in prisons. They are intelligent, they are courageous, they do not go to war, apart from Margaret Thatcher. If we only had women, we wouldn’t be in the embarrassment we’re in with all these crazy people.

“Woman is the most discriminated person in the world in all countries. That still raises a question, a question about the choice of men, on this side, I want that, I want this land, it’s mine. I wonder where we’re going.”

Many titles have been performed with women like I only want her with Christina Marocco or with Françoise Hardy and Dear friend. There is also Come back my love. What does this story tell?

It is the loss of a being. It is successful because the music is magnificent, the text is not bad and then there is this guitar gimmick which is very fragile, which does the same thing all the time, but never the same thing. It’s with a wonderful guitarist, Freddy Koella. He has a guitar that dates from the 19th century. He came up with this thing on the guitar and I was blown away. The interpretation was easy, I just had to take this tempo and not get angry. She has Revolver eyes was inspired by Revolver of the Beatles and there, it was inspired by this very natural guitar. There is almost no effect. We play it again on the harp on the album, it’s magnificent. It’s an element that turns, which seems like nothing, which never tires you, which draws you in every time. And I think the song is successful because of that.

What is especially incredible is the poetic sounding board. She talks about a missing loved one, but at the same time it’s as if they will never disappear. This is also the strength of poetry.

I believe that having said, “Come back my love” to a father, it’s quite strange, that you call him my love. I’m in love with the woman I love, that’s great, but I called this song that from the start.

“A man, a son saying that to his father, it’s weird, but it’s right.”

One day, Muriel Robin called me in tears. I ask him if he’s okay,”I had to stop, I was on the highway, I couldn’t drive anymore. There is your song playing, it is wonderful” because Come back my loveit made this song another song.
