Miss Cameroon 2024: the new beauty queen already at the heart of a lively controversy

Princess Issie, Miss Cameroon 2023, gave up her crown to Raissa Noura Njikam, now the country’s new beauty queen.

Indeed, on June 28, 2024, the grand finale of the 17th edition of Miss Cameroon was held in Yaoundé in the presence of the First Lady, Mrs. Chantal Biya.

The event, whose organization did not escape criticism, brought together 27 candidates who gave various performances demonstrating different facets of their beauty.

Raissa Noura Njikam is far from being unanimous after her election and is already at the heart of the debates.

Many Cameroonians complain that there is nothing natural about it. According to them, other candidates were better placed to win this title.

“When I see her face to face and without the paint on her face, I will know if she is a beauty queen or not.

But in the meantime, none of us like the type of skinny girls without butts and breasts that COMICA shoves at us every year, making us believe that they are the most beautiful.”

“Even she herself is surprised when people tell her she is a beauty queen. Worse, the most beautiful in Cameroon.”

“Normally, a Miss Cameroon, who is also a Miss AFRICAN, is supposed to be natural, with her real natural hair. And not with these hats that serve as their hair. If I was on the jury, you’re not natural, don’t even hope. We’re tired of wigs. We are in Africa there.”

“Nothing natural. Ultimately, this competition does not promote African beauty. For me, it’s useless.”
