There will be no three-way race in the 4th constituency of Ille-et-Vilaine, that of Redon, during the second round of the legislative elections, Sunday July 7, 2024. Anne Patault, candidate of the presidential majority who achieved a score of 24.06% of the vote, announces that she is withdrawing, in agreement with her substitute, Bernard Ethoré.

“I know my withdrawal will disappoint”

“This decision is not easy: convinced that our country needs appeasement, overcoming selfishness and consensus, I wanted to offer a voting space to participate in the construction of a balanced, realistic and responsible republican center. It is in this space that we will rehabilitate the democratic life damaged by extremist parties.”unfolds the candidate of Ensemble.

Anne Patault then returns to her score and especially to “the 16,585 voters who voted for me” thanking them and the activists for their support.

“This result would allow me to stay in the race and I know that my withdrawal will disappoint them. But in a second round polarized between RN and LFI, I consider that my candidacy will not fully meet its natural electorate. Thus, a part of the citizens will not be represented. It is only a postponement, I remain mobilized so that our voice remains audible”, explains Anne Patault.

“The RN will never have my vote”

Regarding the second round, she did not give any voting instructions, saying: “respectful of the free choice of voters”. She does not formally call for blocking the RN but remains clear on the reason which dictated her choice: “True to my convictions and my constant commitments, the RN will never have my vote. Our country deserves better.”

Next Sunday, it is therefore a duel between Jacques François (RN) and Mathilde Hignet (NFP) that voters will have to arbitrate. Without a doubt, this withdrawal gives a little breathing space to the outgoing MP, who will be neck and neck with the RN candidate on Sunday.
