In recent years, the rumours have been sparked again after the couple made a number of high-profile appearances. Speaking to Telegraph in 2021, Fergie said: “All I can say is we’re happy with the way we are right now.” Meanwhile, appearing on the show Loose Women last year she insisted the couple were ‘unshakable’: ‘In the past we’ve been co-parents, and now we’re co-grandparents […] It is a joy to be able to spend time with family. »

At the beginning of the year, however, it seems that the situation has changed. According to the Daily Mail, sources said Charles III had “given Andrew and Fergie” the green light to marry. According to specialist Ephraim Hardcastle: “If the Duke and Duchess of York finally stop procrastinating and confirm their decision to remarry, the king has made it easier for them. A source whispers that Charles told Andrew and Fergie that he would give them his blessing. »

What’s next for the Duke and Duchess of York? The couple may well be enjoying their time as grandparents to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s young children – Sienna, August and Ernest, as well as Beatrice’s stepson Wolfie. They have appeared together again at a number of high-profile events. The last of these appearances was on Easter Sunday, when the Duchess joined a small group of senior royals to accompany the King to church. It was the monarch’s first public engagement since his cancer diagnosis in January, and the event was all the more emotional as only a handful of senior royals were present.

Royal fans may have been a little surprised to see Sarah Ferguson on the exclusive guest list, alongside Queen Camilla, the highly respected Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.

The Duchess of York, meanwhile, looked delighted to attend the event, beaming as she stepped out alongside Princess Anne’s husband Tim Laurence. She was seen chatting with church staff and smiling as she spoke with her former husband, Prince Andrew. Some have even speculated that she, Camilla and Princess Anne opted for coordinating green outfits for the occasion.
