The conservatory of music and choreographic art named in the name of the late Amazigh music virtuoso Mohamed Rouicha is a thriving nursery of future talents who hope to perpetuate the work of the undisputed master of Loutar and his prodigy.

This new conservatory erected in the center of the city of Khénifra, historic city of the Zayane, pays homage to the late Rouicha, scintillating voice of the Atlas and icon of Moroccan musical memory having contributed immeasurably to the development of the Khénifri and national cultural scene.

This cutting-edge artistic and musical building aims to prepare, train and support young musicians on the path to the awakening and blossoming of their talents while taking into account the musical and poetic specificities of the Middle Atlas.

The institute offers academic courses in music theory, lute and classical violin. To date, the number of students is around 42 who take their lessons in rooms with excellent acoustics to practice all types of musical instruments. The conservatory has a dance hall designed according to requirements, a theater and dressing rooms for artists.

The first of its kind in the capital of the Middle Atlas, this structure aims to be a showcase for the promotion of the region’s intangible artistic heritage and the discovery of new talented musicians in addition to encouraging musical practice among young, rising generations. especially residents of hard-to-reach rural areas.

In a statement to MAP, Kamal Seghir, professor and director of this conservatory, indicated that this unique cultural structure is intended to be a new milestone on the path to strengthening the cultural and artistic sphere and intends to contribute to the development and improvement of provincial musical practice.

After emphasizing that the province constitutes a gold mine of talented artists and has undeniable cultural and artistic assets, Mr. Seghir recalled that the Mohamed Rouicha Institute of Music and Choreographic Art aims to offer academic training specialized to the beneficiaries, boys and girls in several artistic and musical specialties, notably music theory, lute and classical violin, following a theoretical approach and another practice which tends to form different artistic profiles and to promote excellence for each instrumentalist.

More than just a music institute, the Mohamed Rouicha conservatory is a grandiose tribute to the memory of the maestro of Amazigh music. This cultural center will promote and strengthen the cultural scene of the region and breathe new life into the musical scene, in addition to promoting the intangible cultural and artistic heritage bequeathed by the masters of Amazigh music including the late Rouicha was unquestionably one of its pioneers.
