Ignoring the threats made by the Polisario, the 16th edition of the Eco Race Africa Rally continues its program. This Saturday, January 4 saw the organization of the 5th stage, of 629 km, between Laayoune and Dakhla.
“Last Moroccan stop before a well-deserved day of rest! The caravan crosses the southern Moroccan desert, starting on new tracks leading to the dunes. The competitors will then progress on rapid sandy stretches, dotted with camel grass, to Dakhla, where the bivouac awaits them,” indicate the organizers in a post on Facebook.
While the Eco Race Africa Rally crosses the Sahara, the leader of the Polisario welcomed, yesterday during a meeting with the diplomats of the Front, the “achievements made” by his movement during the four years of war against Morocco, but without stating the results of these “achievements”.
Before the Polisario broke the ceasefire, on November 13, 2020, the passage of participants in the Eco Race Rally through El Guerguerate took place under the escort of elements of MINURSO, following requests from the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres. A UN mobilization intended, then, to avoid the blocking of the corridor between Morocco and Mauritania by members of the Front.
