The president of the Ticino cantonal criminal court Mauro Ermani has resigned for health reasons, his lawyer announced on Tuesday. Accused of pornography, he was cleared last September.
Ermani’s health problems have worsened over the past two weeks, his lawyer told Keystone-ATS. The judge wanted his estate to be settled as quickly as possible, he added, confirming information from several media outlets.
Accusers removed from office
The court already operates with two fewer judges. In mid-December, the Judicial Council had in fact dismissed with immediate effect from their functions in December the two judges who had accused Ermani of pornography.

He saw it as a “serious violation of their duties as magistrates”. The two men knew that the accusations against the president of the cantonal criminal court were unfounded. Such a denunciation against a colleague was therefore “unacceptable and incompatible with the function of magistrate”.
Ermani was accused of sexually harassing a secretary by sending her a sexually explicit image via WhatsApp. The extraordinary prosecutor appointed by the Council of State, however, concluded in September that the legal conditions for the pornography offense were not met. The investigation was therefore closed for this offense. (jzs/ats)
