Nigeria: 6 soldiers killed and military vehicles burned in Boko Haram attack

– Witness describes attack in northeastern Borno state as ‘revenge mission’

At least six soldiers were killed and school and military vehicles were set on fire when a suspected Boko Haram terrorist group attacked the Nigerian military, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The attack took place over the weekend in the Damboa local government area of the northeastern Borno state, Punch daily reported.

A witness described the assault as “well coordinated” and added that it looked like a “revenge mission”.

Indeed, Nigeria faces multiple security challenges in different regions. While the country battles the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, banditry and kidnappings are common in the northwest.

According to Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, the country recorded nearly 615,000 insecurity-related deaths between May 2023 and April 2024.

However, the northwest region, devastated by bandits, recorded the highest figure with 206,030 victims.
