A resident of the Budange district, in Fameck, alerted the firefighters this Tuesday morning around 10 a.m. after smelling a strong smell of gas in her street.
Around fifteen firefighters from Thionville, Hayange and Hagondange intervened to secure the perimeter around 10:30 a.m. The gendarmes and municipal police officers were also present to cordon off the neighborhood during the intervention. Two people were evacuated and four others confined for safety reasons. Children from nearby schools, who had to go home for lunch break, remained in classes while they identified the leak.
The incident was finally located on rue des Fontaines, between two homes. GrDF company agents cut off the gas supply for the day. This Tuesday afternoon, they will dig the ground to plug the leak.
The Budange district has been accessible since 12:30 p.m., only the portion of the street affected by the leak, rue des Fontaines, is inaccessible. The full reopening of the track is planned for the end of the afternoon.
