The company Nociva (“harmful” in Occitan) specializes in preventive treatments against mosquitoes. Its co-founder was the guest of Eco d’ici, at 7:15 a.m. this Thursday, June 27, 2024.

While the tiger mosquito is more than established in Occitania, the Lauragais company “Nociva”, based in Nailloux, offers preventive treatments. It has concluded contracts with around ten communities, including Saint-Orens, to carry out treatments (once a month for St-Orens). Mélinda Ritter, co-founder of the company, was the guest of Eco this Thursday, June 27, 2024.

No synthetic products

“We work with products that are not synthetic. The 0 mosquito does not exist, we must learn to live with the mosquito, even if in Haute-Garonne we are not at the highest infestation rate, it is higher in the Pyrénées-Orientales for example”, explains Mélinda Ritter. She reminds us that we must empty the bowls and prune them at home to avoid having mosquitoes in our homes.

It is all the more important that Public Health France indicated in April that Surveillance system strengthened for dengue, chikungunya and Zika is active from May 1 to November 30. “For the 2024 season, the import pressure is particularly high for the dengue virus (…) The number of cases imported into mainland France since the start of 2024 is ten times higher than that observed in 2023 over the same period. We therefore expect a very large number of imported cases this season and therefore an increased risk of occurrence of indigenous dengue cases.says Public Health France.

In Occitanie, in 2023, there will be 211 imported cases of dengue and 23 “native” cases, none in Haute-Garonne (11 cases in Perpignan, 9 in Gard and 3 in Montpellier).

Toulouse town hall published a video to remind people of the right actions to adopt on a daily basis.
