Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition Leila Benali said Monday that her country will quadruple its investments in renewable energy, to reach $1.5 billion per year, between 2024 and 2027.

This is what emerged from a speech she made in Parliament and which was followed by Anadolu.

“The pace of annual investments has been accelerated, from 4 billion dirhams (400 million dollars) per year previously, to 15 billion dirhams (1.5 billion dollars) between 2024 and 2027,” she explained.

He added: “To date, we have completed projects to produce 4,600 megawatts of clean energy.”

“Between 2021 and mid-2024, the ministry has granted a license to produce 200 megawatts of clean energy. This is the largest capacity the ministry has granted licenses for in recent years,” she said.

Morocco is stepping up its efforts to secure its energy needs, especially since it imports 90% of them, in parallel with the rise in prices since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war in February 2022.

Morocco is working to increase investments in renewable energy, as well as establish partnerships in green hydrogen, as part of its efforts to reduce dependence on external sources.
