THE Doctor Guy Jeanmaire, who has created the radiotherapy department of the La Roche-sur-Yon hospital centerAnd dedicated his life to medicine and the fight against cancer, died on June 6, 2024 at the age of 79.
“Head of the radiotherapy department at the CHD, he left his mark on the medical community with his dedication and humanity. He also played a crucial role within the Vendée Cancer League as an Administrator. His unwavering commitment has made it possible to significantly advance the League’s missions in the department,” writes the Vendée League committee in a press release.
The team of volunteers and employees will remember him as an exceptional doctor, always attentive and ready to offer the best possible care.
Serving Vendée patients
Doctor Élisabeth Deniaud-Alexandre, head of the oncology-radiotherapy department at the CHD, Georges Couturier, former director of the Yonnais hospital, and Gérard Jourdain, former director of the committee also paid tribute to his memory.
“Dr Guy Jeanmaire has worked all his life for the well-being of Vendée patients. He founded the radiotherapy department in 1978, on Boulevard d’Anglais having only one cobalt. The service moved in 1990 and acquired, thanks to subsidies from the League, two linear accelerators. Doctor Jeanmaire never stopped modernizing the service and helping patients by actively investing in the League, despite the illness,” recalled Dr Deniaud.
A curious doctor
“It is to the head of the radiotherapy department that I wish to pay tribute, to the doctor curious about new technologies, to the radiotherapist who carried his discipline to the limit in Vendée, to the determined promoter of the fight against cancer pleading for financial means for new equipment and building relationships of trust with Puy du Fou as well as with the League against Cancer to help promote its discipline. The Vendéens say thank you,” greeted Georges Couturier.
A network man to improve treatments
“He was the network man, very attached to the partnership with Puy du Fou. With Renée Bossard, he obtained a first Cinéscénie for the benefit of the Vendée committee of the League against Cancer then collected more than €100,000 for the acquisition of equipment within the radiotherapy department. He traveled throughout the Vendée to explain advances in cancer treatments and he knew how to say it in language that was attractive to everyone. He was therefore this precursor that the Vendée was waiting for,” said Gérard Jourdain.
