The “planetary health diet”, the translation of “Planetary Health Diet Index” (PHDI) into English, could, according to the historic EAT-Lancet report, sustainably feed the world’s constantly growing population, by reducing food waste and limiting the environmental impact. This consists of eating foods that are good for your health, with a low carbon impact. For this, it is advisable to eat minimally processed plant foods and to have a modest consumption of meat and dairy products. This is why the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and unsaturated oils is strongly recommended as part of this diet.

In a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, American researchers found that the “planetary health diet” (PHPD) could reduce the risk of premature death, while having a positive impact on the environment.

To carry out their study, the researchers analyzed data from more than 200,000 people participating in three different cohort studies. Two of them measured the health status of nurses and the remaining study on monitoring health professionals. The volunteers had to answer questionnaires about their eating habits approximately every four years for a period of 34 years.
