After 5 years of closure, the Pietrapola thermal baths, located in the town of Isolaccio-di-Fiumorbo, are finally reopening their doors to spa guests in October 2024. Thanks to its sodium sulphide waters at 55°C, the new Corsica Orientale thermal center welcomes spa guests as part of the rheumatology orientation.

Since 2019, the Pietrapola thermal site has undergone work amounting to 3 million euros. After all these years full of twists and turns for the project leaders, spa guests can now enjoya new thermal establishment fed by the historic Pietrapola thermal spring.

Five years of waiting

Several events explain the delay in the progress of the work. First of all, the COVID-19 pandemic and the resumption of management of the thermal baths by the Corsican Community significantly delayed the start of the project.

On a technical level, the deadlines were difficult to meet given the complexity of the search for the historic thermal spring of Pietrapola and the presence of legionella in the catchment. Bacterial pollution which caused heavy work for a year. According to Julien Paolini, executive advisor in charge of land use planning and energy, who spoke to journalists from 3 Corse ViaStella: “It was a year of analysis with the Regional Health Agency (ARS), monthly checks, and therefore behind all the reconstruction and security work on the site.”

The care offered and the medical team

The new establishment with chalet style in Lariccio pine, located near the ancient thermal bathswill be able to welcome spa guests from October 2024. As part of the Rheumatology orientation, four types of care will be offered as an approved treatment: hydromassages, aerobics, local steam baths and poultice applications. Over the 18 days of spa treatment, 72 treatments will be provided. The healthcare team will be composed ofa temporary doctor, a nurse, two hydrotherapists and a technical agent to accommodate patients.

For their part, the residents of Pietrapola have developed several houses in tourist lodge to accommodate spa guests. The enthusiasm for the new establishment in the hamlet of Pietrapola is well and truly present since dozens of patients have already booked their treatment!
