A man was arrested by the Montargis police on Wednesday, August 28, after the assault of a local police officer. The suspect is still in custody.

Montargis police arrested a man after an attempted assault and rape of a municipal employee of the Montargis CCAS on Wednesday morning, August 28, the Montargis municipality announced in a message published on Facebook.

“He entered on foot behind her as she was about to get into her service vehicle,” said Benoit Digeon, the mayor of Montargis, in a press release.

The national and municipal police forces then began searching to apprehend the perpetrator, who is 20 years old according to Jean-Cédric Gaux, public prosecutor of Montargis. He claims to be Tunisian and does not present any documents to prove his identity, again according to the Montargis public prosecutor’s office. The mayor adds that video surveillance images made it possible to identify him.
