The mystery still remains in this case. A 57-year-old Frenchman was killed in Brussels when one or more armed individuals burst into his home on the night of Wednesday to Thursday for a motive that is still unknown, the prosecutor’s office in the Belgian capital said. Two other members of his family, his wife and their 22-year-old son, also of French nationality, were injured. The suspect(s) are on the run and are being actively sought.
Dating app
One of the investigators’ hypotheses is that the perpetrator(s) were able to enter their home after arranging a meeting via a gay dating app. “We are examining whether the perpetrator(s) had any possible contact with one of the victims via a dating app,” the prosecution stressed in a statement.
“It is not yet possible to confirm whether these events are linked to homophobic violence,” the same source added. “There is still no clarity on the exact circumstances and motives of the perpetrator(s).” The events occurred on Thursday at around 4:00 a.m. local time in a building on a street near Avenue Louise, an upscale residential area in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles.
Three people shot
Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered three people hit by bullets, according to the prosecutor’s office. The father, in critical condition, died of his injuries at the scene. His wife, also 57, and the son were taken to hospital.
Their lives are not in danger. The investigation has been entrusted to the federal judicial police under the direction of an investigating judge from Brussels. A ballistics expert and a forensic doctor have also been called in by the public prosecutor.
