Two women have been charged with kidnapping a five-year-old child earlier this week in Brossard with the intention of sending him abroad.

Ruixue Yang and Xin Wang both appeared with the help of a Mandarin interpreter Wednesday morning at the Longueuil courthouse.

The women, aged 65 and 48 respectively, face three serious charges, including abducting a child with intent to have the child unlawfully sent or transported outside Canada against the child’s will.

Xin Wang, who lives in Thornhill, and Ruixue Yang, who has no known address, were arrested shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday by York Regional Police. They are currently being held in Ontario and will be transported to Quebec for further legal proceedings.

The Crown Prosecutor, Mr.e Bruno Des Lauriers did not want to specify the link between the two accused women and the abducted child, whose identity is protected by an order.

“With the evidence we have, the prosecution intends to oppose the release of the accused,” the lawyer said as he left the courtroom.

The case returns to court tomorrow for the bail hearing stage.
