Lilian Dejean killed in Grenoble while trying to stop a motorist responsible for a road accident, little Kamilya fatally mowed down by a motorcyclist… While Prime Minister Michel Barnier promised that the new government would be named “next week”, a large majority of French people hope that security will be at the center of the ministers’ concerns. According to our CSA poll for Europe 1, CNews and The Sunday Journal*84% of respondents believe that security should be a priority for the new government.

And this applies to absolutely all age groups and all professions. Among 18-24 year olds, 50-64 year olds and CSP-, this figure even rises to 87%. Conversely, only 35-49 year olds and CSP+ are slightly less likely to be in favour of this idea, at 78%.

Slight divide between right-wing and left-wing voters

A slight divide is created depending on the political proximity of those polled. While 90% of right-wing voters think that security should be a priority for the new government, this figure falls to 59% for left-wing voters. In detail, the supporters of La France Insoumise are mostly opposed to this idea, at 56%. Voters of the Socialist Party are in favour of it at 62%, and those of Europe Écologie Les Verts at 61%.

Among voters in the presidential majority, 86% think that security should be a priority. On the right, this rises to 96% for Les Républicains voters, and to 98% for those in the National Rally.
