Things seem to be getting complicated for the Indian Grand Prix, which was first held last season. Cancelled this season, the Grand Prix is unlikely to be part of the 2025 calendar.

A troubled cancellation

The situation of the Indian Grand Prix is proving to be complex. Cancelled this season, the reason remained unclear, and still is. Scheduled for last September, the event which takes place on the Buddh circuit had not announced a cancellation but a postponement of the Grand Prix. Dorna Sports and the FIM then discussed “operational reasons” related to the weather.

Subsequently, a statement said that “On the advice of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, which continues its long-term commitment to MotoGP, the championship will return to the Buddh International Circuit in March 2025, when weather conditions are expected to be optimal for spectators and riders.”.

A new contract has since been signed, running until 2027 for the proper holding of the Grand Prix. Despite this, the local authorities would not have found the necessary budget to organize the event as indicated by the media Motorsport .

Unless there is a last-minute agreement, which seems unlikely, the Indian Grand Prix could therefore no longer be on the calendar after just one edition. The answer will be when the latter is revealed, in a few days.
