The meeting is at 1:30 p.m., this Friday, October 4, 2024, on the basketball court behind the Bâtiment à modeling (BAM), in the Cleunay district, in Rennes. Vincent Marchand, cycling instructor from the Roazhon mobility association, welcomes the participants.
All are adults and from the neighborhood. Some come for a single two-hour session, others more regularly. “We are betting on bringing open and free workshops to the neighborhood,” explains Vincent Marchand. Classes are also held in the city center and in Maurepas. Quickly, the students of the day are invited to set foot in the stirrup, under the wise and reassuring advice of the guide.

Restore your confidence
The reasons that bring them here are multiple. This can be “to regain confidence after a fall or to learn or relearn how to ride a bike”. Raïssa, 28 years old, resident of the neighborhood, “I would like[t] know how to ride a bike and bring [sa] girl at school on a luggage rack ». In just three sessions, by working on her balance using the tropézienne, then by slaloming between the blocks, the young mother progresses quickly.
After a few exercises in the parking lot, the session continues on the paths that lead to La Vilaine. Branches to avoid, sidewalks in town… “The idea is to move quickly to the exterior to get down to business”specifies Vincent Marchand.
The monitor adds: “Cycling is technical. Here, we break down everything, but it is also a space for emancipation through sporting activity. » Raissa confirms: “I encourage other people to come, you have to dare! » She leaves, confident, on the cycle path. In a while, she will be able to proudly put a luggage rack on it.
