The Winnipeg Police Service is conducting a homicide investigation following the death of a 46-year-old man on Sunday

Officers responded to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Arlington Street around 2:20 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of an injured man, said a police news release issued Sunday.

When they arrived, they found the man on the ground and gave him emergency treatment, before transporting him to hospital in critical condition. His death was subsequently noted, the press release said.

Bloodstains were visible on a sidewalk along Portage on Sunday. Police have placed evidence markers in the area.

Police blocked off the area east of Portage Avenue near Arlington, urging motorists to avoid it on social media.

Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the man’s death to call investigators at 204-986-6508 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-TIPS or use the online form.
