OFCOM has set up two units specializing in cybersecurity and telecommunications network security issues.

Since January 2025, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has two new sections. Their goal: to strengthen the cybersecurity and security of telecommunications networks in Switzerland.

The Market Access and Cybersecurity section ensures that radiocommunications installations comply with data protection and privacy requirements. From August 1, 2025, this section must ensure that devices connected to the Internet, such as smartphones, smartwatches and baby monitors, comply with the requirements for integrating mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access to personal data , prevent monetary fraud and avoid cyber attacks.

For its part, the “Network and services security” section focuses on the availability and resilience of telecommunications networks. It develops and applies legal requirements to strengthen infrastructure security, particularly in the face of the risks of electrical disturbances. This unit also ensures compliance with security directives and fights against unauthorized manipulation of telecommunications installations.
