Samsung Display announced its advances at CES 2025. It’s usual, this is the time when one of the largest screen suppliers makes announcements.
This time, it’s a great advance in QD-OLED which will equip 2025 televisions from Samsung Electronics, but also from other brands like Sony.
Up to 4,000 nits
The new generation of QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panels reaches an unprecedented level of brightness of 4,000 nits in HDR. For comparison, OLED displays typically barely exceed 1,000 nits at best. Last year, QD-OLED was announced at up to 3000 nits.
This performance is explained by an optimization of the structure of the slabs itself: quantum dots (Quantum Dots) now more efficiently convert blue light from OLED diodes into red and greenwhile maintaining chromatic purity.
This 30% improvement compared to the previous generation notably allows better management of HDR with more intense light peaks, particularly useful for HDR10+ content.
There are several sizes of diagonals, 55, 65, 77 and up to 83 inches. The new QD-OLED panels will also be manufactured for PC screen sizes, namely 27 inches, 31.5 inches, 34 inches and 49 inches. Samsung talks about the highest pixel density of all OLED monitors.

Asus, Samsung and MSI have the best resolution for 2025: 240 Hz + 4K + OLED
Note that the TVs’ actual maximum brightness should not reach 4,000 nits in calibrated mode. Last year, Samsung Display claimed that the 2024 QD-OLED TV panel would achieve 3,000 nits, but in our test of the Samsung S95D we measured “only” 1,670 nits.
