[DIGITAL Business Africa] – Down with remote control with Google? The American tech giant is adding new hardware components to future Google TVs. Upcoming Google TVs will feature built-in far-field microphones. Announcement made by the company this early in January 2025. These microphones have the ability to capture audio remotely, which will allow you to speak to your ’s voice assistant without having to grab your remote. You’ll be able to interact with the Assistant on your TV the same way you would with the Assistant on a Google Home speaker.

The other hardware component that will be integrated into future Google TVs is a proximity sensor. This is an essential element of smartphones, allowing them to detect the presence of an object nearby. Future Google TVs will use proximity sensors to detect when you approach your TV and show you an on-screen hub containing “personalized and informative widgets.”

And to make Google TV’s voice assistant more conversational, the company is integrating Gemini features. A generative and multimodal transformative artificial intelligence created by Google. This integration offers several advantages, including:

• Allow your Google TV’s voice assistant to continue conversations by matching your current query with questions you’ve previously asked. However, you will have to say “Ok Google” to trigger the assistant on your TV.

• Receipt of responses supplemented by YouTube videos. For example, if you ask “What are the best places to visit in Asia for a summer vacation? »your Google TV will include YouTube videos in the results.

• Personalize your TV’s ambient mode with unique AI-generated screensavers.

• Search for media and your Google Photos using conversational queries like “What are the latest Disney movies?” » or “Show me photos from my trip to Italy”.

• Control your compatible smart devices with simpler commands like “dim the lights” or “who’s at the front door?” “.

According to Google, Hisense and TCL are the launch partners for these new features. The first devices including Gemini remote and proximity-based widgets are expected later this year (2025).
