The Françoise Sagan stamp was unveiled on Tuesday, June 25 at the literary hotel Le Swann, a tribute from the Nation to the writer who died 20 years ago, on September 24, 2004.

From September 23, it will be possible to send an envelope or postcard bearing the face of the author of “La Chamade”. The stamp is illustrated by a photo taken by his son, Denis Westhoff.

During her beginnings and during her numerous trips abroad after the publication of “Bonjour Tristesse”, the writer began regular epistolary relations with her most faithful friends. We can also read part of this rich correspondence in “Write to me quickly and at length, Letters to Véronique Campion”, published by Le Livre de Pocket.

“These few letters on which several stamps were affixed allowed her, at a time when the telephone must have been very complicated, and the telegram too laconic, to maintain this precious bond of friendship and above all to break this feeling of solitude that she sometimes had to endure” remembers her son. And he continues: “The stamp was certainly for her, during her travels, a friend, a precious support. And today it is a real stroke of luck that this friend came back to her of his own accord and bears her effigy.”

The stamp will be sold in preview on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 September in Cajarc, her hometown where she now rests, and in Paris at the Le Carré d’Encre paper mill. With more than 500,000 copies on sale, 1 million people will be able to be touched by the author, who has made so many hearts flutter.
