“You don’t often see Mathilde spend so much money on just one item of clothing”

Mathilde, queen of fashion… We know that the sovereign is particularly fond of beautiful fashion houses and takes advantage of each event to dress with taste. And the Queen Elisabeth music competition, to which she has granted her High Patronage since 2014, is one of these occasions…

Thus, Queen Mathilde has graced the public with outfits, each more remarkable than the last, during her various appearances since the start of the competition in May. For this edition where the violin was the star, she notably wore a red sequined gala dress, for the final which she attended alongside King Philippe. This one was by Jenny Packham, a British designer of whom Princess Kate is also a big fan across the Channel, and which cost a little over €3,000.

But this Monday, to attend the winners’ concert at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Queen took out a little openwork jacket which did not go unnoticed and for good reason… This one, signed by the Italian haute couture house Giorgio Armani, displays a price of… €12,000.

Suffice to say that for fashion bloggers who scrupulously follow the evolution of the Queen’s wardrobe, this new purchase has been widely commented on.

“You don’t often see Mathilde spend so much money on a single item of clothing,” explains Jelka Van Duyse, who manages the “Royal Wardrobe” page. “In general, Mathilde wears already worn clothes rather than new outfits. She doesn’t spend a lot of money on jewelry or clothes, unlike other queens in Europe, so we can pass this major expense on to her.

And it’s true that our sovereign has the habit of putting back on her already worn clothes. We should therefore see this “little” short jacket in lambskin, tulle and 3/4 sleeves again on other occasions…

The Armani house is one of Queen Mathilde’s favorites, who adores its clean lines and Italian elegance.
