At the Grand Moussanté Mosque where he prayed behind the imam ratib Tafsir Babacar Ndiour, the mayor of the city of Thiès, Dr Babacar Diop, rejoiced at the fact that “the religious guide, in his sermon, speaks to us, to ourselves, politicians, by remembering our responsibilities before God, before the People, because it reminds us that sooner or later we will be accountable here, but also before God”. An opportunity that he took advantage of to encourage the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. “In the dynamic that he indicated, which is a dynamic of work, of rigor, also of construction of a Rule of Law, I strongly encourage, as mayor of this city, the “Jub Jubeul Jubanti”, which should lead to the “juboo””, indicates Dr Babacar Diop. Also to continue: “Yes, the truth, but the truth must lead to reconciliation. Truth and reconciliation, therefore justice and peace. Justice precedes peace, and I think that it is a vast project, a “Jub Jubeul Jubanti” project, to reconcile the country, rebuild it and reunite, therefore, once again, the great family, the great Senegalese Nation.

The mayor of Thiès said that he can only strongly encourage the Head of State because, he notes, “we are in a new time which is a time of construction of a new society, of ‘a new Senegal, which will be created with, obviously, new values around justice and peace.’

On the position of Imam Ndiour in relation to the exit, at Ucad, of the French political leader, Mélenchon, the mayor of Thiès emphasized: “The imam is in his role, he assumes a prophetic mission. I think that there is not a Senegalese who agrees with this speech by Mélenchon, whatever religion you belong to. I think that it is the revealed religions, Islam and Christianity, and even the traditional religions that we have here, that there is, within the Senegalese people, unanimity on this question of homosexuality.

Considering the capital importance he attaches to youth in society at the local level, Dr Babacar Diop emphasizes that he is doing his best to provide for the needs of this segment, despite his very limited means. “When I arrived, I found subsidies granted to students amounting to 7 to 8 million CFA francs. Today, we are at 230 million CFA francs devoted to training, without taking into account the subsidies granted to Thiessois students from Dakar, Bambey, Ziguinchor.
At the level of the field of sport, Dr Babacar Diop, returning to the criticisms of Imam Ndiour towards the Navétane movement, to emphasize that the religious guide is in his role and has only reminded what must be corrected, especially on the fight against violence.
