Happy birthday to Bonnie Tyler who turns 73 this June 8! The British star is enjoying happy days under the Portuguese sun. But where did she buy a house?

Bonnie Tyler had spotted before anyone else the beauty of the Algarve, a region now adored by tourists in Portugal who flock there by the thousands every summer. The singer, who preferred to snub the Spanish Costa Brava at a time when this area was popular, bought a house in a seaside town where she spends a good part of the year.

Bonnie Tyler, in love with Portugal: where does she live?

The 73-year-old singer was visionary in settling in Portugal, and more precisely in the Algarve region, by the ocean. A love that doesn’t date from yesterday! “In 1978, I fell in love with the Algarve, after recording my third album in a villa in Vale do Lobo”she confided to The Times. “We worked all day, then we went to the little restaurants on the beach that served until late. Nothing beats grilled piri-piri chicken in a shack on the sand. So simple and perfect,” she explains.

Moving to this region of Portugal therefore seemed obvious to the interpreter of Total Eclipse of the Heart : “In the early 1980s, I bought a house in Albufeira with my husband (Robert Sullivan, Editor’s note). We now spend about six months a year there.”

To create a cocoon of love, they had to have patience. “We had the original villa demolished and rebuilt with large windows to take advantage of the views,” she added. But that’s not all. The couple also own a yacht, moored in Vilamoura. “We take friends and family regularly. Our favorite place is a small island just off the coast of Faro, called Ilha do Farol. It has a beautiful long beach, a lighthouse and no cars. When we feel adventurous, we sail to Sagres, at the western tip, where the Atlantic opens”, Bonnie Tyler said.

Bonnie Tyler doesn’t forget her Wales

If Bonnie Tyler is happy in her home in Portugal, she does not forget her native land: Wales. Bonnie Tyler is deeply attached to her Welsh roots, having grown up in Skewen, a small village in South Wales.

Even after gaining international fame thanks to his hits like It’s a Heartache And Holding Out for a HeroBonnie Tyler never forgot her roots, often expressing her pride in being Welsh. “No matter what happens, I always come back to Wales. I’ve lived in the Swansea area all my life and had my first holiday in Porthcawl. I live in Mumbles now. It’s a lovely part of the coast has changed a lot over the years, with the opening of many restaurants and bars.she declared, still in The Times. We wish him a happy birthday!
