The leading European air transport group Lufthansa announced on Wednesday that it wanted to hire 10,000 employees worldwide in 2025, half of them in Germany. Swiss will also be concerned and should recruit 1000 people.
These recruitments will concern “the most diverse professional categories”, the German group said in a press release on Wednesday. This represents a tenth of the payroll of the group which includes Lufthansa, Swiss (9,500 employees), Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings.
This hiring plan is less ambitious than that of 2024, when the group recruited 13,000 people after receiving 350,000 applications.
The carrier had cut more than 30,000 positions due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on its activities, a drain that has now almost been erased by recruitment in recent years.
Rare sector to hire
In detail, the group wants to attract 2,000 flight attendants and 800 pilots. Some 1,400 ground staff, 1,300 technical experts and 1,200 administrative employees are also sought.
While the German state had to come to the aid of the carrier because of the pandemic, temporarily taking a stake in Lufthansa, the strong recovery in air transport allowed the group to achieve an exceptional profit in 2023.
Aeronautics is one of the rare sectors ready to hire more in 2025, according to a study by the IW institute. Social plans have multiplied in recent months in Europe’s largest economy, which is slowing down due to difficulties in industry, particularly the automobile sector.
