In January, 9 million French people will receive 645 euros from taxes, find out if you are one of them

In January 2025, a bank transfer in the amount of 645 euros from the tax administration will soon be made. Around 9 million French people will be affected by this good news.

It's always good to start the new year with a little boost, especially after a typically expensive holiday season. For several years, in mid-January, the tax administration has granted a significant sum to many taxpayers to help them pay some bills.

This year, around 9 million households will benefit from this payment, estimated at 645 euros on average. An amount which varies depending on the situations of the households concerned. To benefit from it, no action is necessary since the transfer will be automatic.

A transfer not linked to income

This transfer, unlike other systems, is not linked to income, which means that it can be perceived by the wealthiest as well as the most modest. In fact, the transfer mainly concerns people who have expenses for childcare or home employment, or who have made donations or rental investments.

Each year, these expenses are reimbursed by taxes at various levels: 50% for home employment and childcare costs, 66% for donations and around 20% for rental investment.

Thus, in January, only the transfer corresponding to 60% of the portion reimbursed by the tax authorities will be made. The 40% of this tax refund will arrive in the bank account during the summer. The amounts of this reimbursement are calculated in relation to the declaration for the year 2024, on income and expenses for 2023. The total amount that each French person concerned will receive will therefore depend on these various declared costs.
