Six months after its deployment in the Catalan skies, the Pegasus helicopter, equipped with an undetectable onboard radar, has drawn up an impressive assessment. This astonishing device has recorded more than 3,500 offenses on the roads of Catalonia, reveals L'Indépendant.
In June 2024, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) made this state-of-the-art technological tool available to the Catalan Road Traffic Service (SCT). Pegasus, a helicopter with a mobile radar, was designed to detect speeding, reckless behavior and other violations in real time.
Despite the signs, motorists are being fooled
There are already 954 motorists who have been caught speeding without even realizing it since the helicopter does not flash like a conventional radar. Furthermore, 87% of offenders were caught on the AP-7, the highway which connects the French border to Barcelona.
Today, Pegasus flies over Catalan roads daily and the numbers speak for themselves. In addition to speeding, 2,500 various infractions, including overtaking on the right, crossing continuous lines or even dangerous driving, were also punished. However, the presence of Pegasus is indeed indicated by signs, which are not enough to calm motorists.
To summarize
The Pegasus helicopter is wreaking havoc, six months after it entered service. This air radar flashes around twenty motorists every day.
