Scottie Scheffler suffered a cut on the palm of his right hand while preparing a meal on Christmas Day and required medical intervention to remove pieces of glass caught there.
The PGA made the announcement on Friday.
The 2024 Player of the Year recipient will miss three to four weeks of activity. Scheffler will miss the tournament The Sentrywhich is the first on the PGA schedule. The tournament will be held January 2-5 in Kapalua, Hawaii.
Scheffler hopes to return to action at the Bob Hope Classic (The American Express) in La Quinta, California, January 16-19.
He is coming off one of the best seasons in PGA history. His seven victories on tour are the most since Tiger Woods in 2007, and he won a second Masters green jacket, a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and a FedEx Cup title.
The 28-year-old was the first golfer since Woods (2005 to 2007) to win the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA Tour Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons.
On December 8, Scheffler won his second consecutive title at the Hero World Challenge, an unofficial tournament hosted by Woods in the Bahamas, which gave Scheffler nine world victories this year.
A harmless injury for Hovland
Scheffler is not the only one to have been injured during the holiday season. Viktor Hovland likely suffered a broken little toe.
The Norwegian golfer posted a photo on his social media of an X-ray image showing his injury.
He writes that he collided with the furniture of his bed. However, there are no details on whether he will miss PGA activities.
