NEW – At the Busan Motor Show, the Korean manufacturer unveiled its new electric city car, which will be marketed in Europe in early 2025.

What electric city car for tomorrow? The subject is stirring up the entire automotive industry. When Renault announced the return of the Twingo, Volkswagen was also preparing a response in the form of a redesigned ID.2 All that will certainly be unveiled at the next Paris Motor Show in October. The German will be available in the other generalist brands of the VW group. We know that Cupra will launch a sports version called Raval. At Stellantis, they are also sharpening their weapons to take up the challenge of the accessible zero-emission city car. For their part, the Koreans are not sitting idly by. Hyundai took advantage of the Busan Motor Show to present its next electric pocket car. Named Inster, this vehicle borrows its stylistic codes from the Casper, a mini SUV with a gasoline engine presented in 2021.

The Korean manufacturer has therefore decided to offer a raised architecture. If the height peaks at 1.57 m, the length does not exceed 3.82 m. The main originality of this very square design lies in the installation of the rear door handles in the window pillar.

While being the access model for the electric family, the Inster SUV offers complete equipment. The digital instrumentation and the multimedia system are both based on a 10.25-inch screen. Small but functional, this SUV benefits from the flat folding of all seats, including the driver’s. The designers have even imagined a bench seat for the front seats which will be offered as an option. The second-row seats are 50/50 split and slide, and their backrests recline. The materials use recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from plastic bottles or extracted from sugar cane.

Two versions are on the program: a 42 kWh battery associated with a 97 hp electric motor or a 49 kWh long-distance battery coupled with a 115 hp machine. The autonomy is respectively 300 and 355 hp thanks to a consumption announced at 15.3 kWh/100 km according to the WLTP standard. Accepting up to 120 kW of charging power, the battery will be able to recover 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes. While the heat pump will be available as an option, Inster has V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology as standard, allowing external devices (110 V/220 V), such as a bicycle or camping equipment, to be powered or recharged.

Its marketing, initially planned for South Korea, will be extended to Europe at the beginning of 2025.
