Spain occupies the first position of exporters from the European Union (EU) to Morocco in 2023, with 36.8% of total exports, according to recent statistics from the Spanish embassy in Rabat.

Spain is thus followed by France, which records 19.1% of total EU exports, Germany (9.8%), Italy (8.4%) and the Netherlands ( 4.4%).

During the first quarter of 2024, the data is very similar, with a notable increase in French exports, which grow by 15%, while maintaining second position. As for EU imports from Morocco, Spain maintains first place after ten consecutive years, reports MAP.

In 2023, Spain imported more than a third of the EU total, with 37.8%. France retained second place with 29% of total EU imports, Italy 8.4%, Germany 5.9% and Belgium 3.5%.

In the first quarter of 2024, the data remains very similar, with a notable increase in flows to Spain.

In 2023, Spain and France jointly accounted for 67% of EU imports from Morocco and 56% of EU exports. A strong impact of Morocco’s geographical proximity and bilateral relations on its foreign trade is observed. Overall, the embassy indicates, based on the latest data available from Eurostat sources, that EU exports to Morocco reached 32.96 billion euros in 2023, an increase of 4.2% per year. compared to 2022.
Conversely, EU imports from Morocco reached 23.39 billion euros, an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous year.

For the first quarter of 2024, these exports to Morocco were 8.75 billion euros, or 1.25% more than in 2023. The EU trade coverage rate with 2023 data, stands at 141%, compared to 145.5% recorded in 2022.
