Menopause: an institute to support vahine

This is a first in French Polynesia: the opening of an institute specializing in menopause. It opened its doors in Tahiti on June 20 in Mamao. At its head, a gynecologist with 40 years of professional experience. The objective of this medical institute: to help women pass this milestone in life through specific treatments.

It is the first establishment of its kind in Tahiti. At the menopause institute in Mamao, theThis appointment with the gynecologist is similar in form to all the others, but basically the exchange is not really the same.

Here, we only talk about the problems of women who no longer have their periods. Some have been waiting for this listening for a very long time. “We have little worries like young women, it’s good to have someone to listen to us“, confides one of the institute’s patients.

In front of her, an experienced taote vahine. After 40 years of practice, including 25 in Tahiti, this gynecologist who has delivered more than 11,000 babies decided to open this center to meet the growing demand from women.

“They come to see me because very often they are a little neglected, they don’t know where to go. I offer to listen to them, they are all a little lost by this episode in their life which poses them lots of problems and inconveniences which are very annoying”

Jean René Sandrock – gynecologist at the menopause institute

Hot flashes, weight gain, vaginal dryness, incontinence, mood swings… As remedies for the symptoms of menopause in women, the doctor suggests hormonal treatments and even sessions on specific machines. Treatment protocols tested in advance by his wife.

“We cannot prescribe things and advise them if we have not tried them. Menopausal women are not out of date. On the contrary, they are a new youth if we have the tools to overcome that”

Marie Sandrock – wife of gynecologist, nurse and psychotherapist

Breaking the taboos on the problems of menopause and providing the best possible support to women during this period of their lives is the challenge being taken today by the first menopause institute, which opened on June 20 in French Polynesia.
