ANRT data reveals significant growth in the mobile telephony market, with the mobile base reaching 55.19 million subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2024, representing an annual increase of 4.36%, or 2.31 million new subscriptions. The penetration rate thus reached an impressive 149.06%.

IAM maintains its dominant position with a market share of 34.91% at the end of March 2024, closely followed by Orange Maroc with 32.73%, while inwi occupies third place with 32.36%.

The distribution of subscriptions between prepaid and postpaid services remains unchanged. Prepaid subscriptions continue to dominate with a market share of 87.1%, while the postpaid segment continues to grow, reaching 7.14 million subscribers at the end of March 2024, an annual increase of 6.03% (+ 406 thousand subscriptions).

When it comes to operator performance, the results show different trends. Maroc Telecom recorded a decrease of 469 thousand prepaid subscribersfollowed by inwi with a loss of 201 thousand subscribers, while Orange Maroc saw a drop of 189 thousand customers. In the postpaid segment, Orange recorded an increase of 105 thousand subscribers, followed by inwi with 50 thousand new subscribers. In comparison, Maroc Telecom only gained 17,000 new subscribers in this category.

The number of mobile number portability requests reached 1,355,592 at the end of the first quarter of 2024, thus recording an annual increase of 13.71%.

Outgoing mobile traffic amounted to 11.78 billion minutes during the first quarter of 2024, recording a decrease of 5.35% compared to the same period in 2023. The number of SMS sent during the same period reached 455 million unitsrecording an annual decline of 5.5%.

The average monthly outgoing usage per user fell by 10.4% year-on-year, standing at 706 minutes at the end of March 2024.
