Mickaël Biron left to come back better

Loaned at the start of the season to Oud-Heverlee Louvain, where he did not establish himself as a starter, even if he took part in 12 matches out of 20 possible, for a total of 203 minutes on the pitches of Jupiler Pro League, the striker Mickaël Biron, 27, returns to RWDM.

He will not have scored a single goal for the Louvanists.

The club will in fact not activate the purchase option it had, while Biron’s contract, which expires in June 2026, is still valid.

OHL (https://tinyurl.com/mtp9cjmc) and RWDM (https://tinyurl.com/5avmn68x) made the announcement Wednesday via press releases on their website.

Unless he is loaned elsewhere, which does not seem to be the trend, Mickaël Biron arrives for free as reinforcement, bringing the speed and the touch of madness that Yannick Ferrera’s team needed.

23 goals in 53 matches in the RWDM jersey

Transferred for 2.5 million euros from KV Ostend, where he never played, Biron scored a total of 23 goals (7 in JPL, 12 in CPL, and 4 in Croky Cup) for RWDM, in 53 matches .

But if the club returned to the Challenger Pro League last season, it was among other things because it did not find the net during the playdowns, at the end of which Molenbeek was relegated.

The other striker, the Senegalese Makhtar Gueye, also recruited from Ostend for 3 million euros, who today plays for Blackurn Rovers (a transfer which brought in 1.88 million euros to John Textor’s RWDM ) in the Championship, had on the other hand scored 3 goals in 5 matches, and 8 in the regular season.

The architect of the rise to the Jupiler Pro League in 2023

As in 2022-2023, where he notably played a key role during the Promotion Play-Offs with 4 goals and 2 assists in 9 matches, and in obtaining the title of champion of the regular season, with 12 goals in 18 matches, Biron will have the opportunity to contribute to the Molenbeekois promotion campaign.

“With this return, the club confirms its continuity project, while Mickaël Biron is preparing to write a new page in its history in Molenbeek, where he experienced some of his greatest successes,” concludes the club press release.

Biron had also performed well under the colors of AS (65 matches, 20 goals and 5 assists), before arriving in Belgium, and has 16 selections (7 goals) for the Martinique national team

RWDM is currently in 3rd place in the Challenger Pro League standings with 28 points, 5 less than Louvière and 9 less than Zulte Waregem.
