Yann le Bris, until now public prosecutor in Mayotte, is preparing to take a new direction by succeeding Clarisse Taron in Martinique. He is scheduled to take office before the end of January 2025, marking a significant turning point in his career, after a mandate marked by decisive actions in Mayotte.
Since his arrival in Mayotte in January 2021, Yann le Bris has made a name for himself thanks to his rigor and his unfailing commitment. Among his notable achievements, he had to handle complex cases, including a tragic triple murder, but it was his fight against corruption that most garnered attention.
He was the first prosecutor to obtain the conviction of local elected officials, leading to the loss of mandates for five of them, including three mayors. These decisions were made possible thanks to ineligibility penalties applied immediately, without waiting for appeals.
The last notable act of his mandate was the sentencing of a mayor from the south of Mayotte to two years in prison for favoritism, thus proving his commitment to effective justice. Its approach, focused on speeding up procedures, has made it possible to speed up the processing of cases, whether they involve everyday delinquency or more serious crimes.
Under his leadership, immediate appearance hearings also increased, which contributed to worsening prison overcrowding, with an occupancy rate of 315.8% in the local jail.
