She will dedicate her work dedicated to L'Hermitain, Saturday December 7, not far from the well-known forest area of Deux-Sévriens, in the south-east of the department. Ginette Savariaux will present her book “L'Hermitain, from the forest to men, from the tree to the sawmill” at the La Mothe-Saint-Héray Christmas market, from 3 to 9 p.m.
The author notably traces the history of the Hermitain sawmill, the village where she lived as a child, in the heart of the small national forest of the same name. Ginette Savariaux also discusses the evolution of woodworking during the 20th century, its management by the National Forestry Office, but also legends, and more broadly the general context of forests affected by climate change.
The history of the Savariaux
It is also the story of the Savariaux over four generations, the sawmill having been created by Amand Savariaux, Ginette's grandfather, the company having closed its doors in 1991.
Originally from Souvigné, the 86-year-old writer, who worked as a physiotherapist in La Mothe, has five works to her credit since 2013. She recently participated in the mushroom festival in La Couarde, then in that of the chestnut tree of Saint-Coutant. The opportunity for her to exchange testimonies and discuss her approach around family memory and local life, which merge in her book published at the end of 2023.
