Amount of loot: €30,000

On December 2, 2024, he was scheduled to participate in a pop-up Christmas market in York, a city in the northeast of England, reports the BBC. But while setting up his stand, he moved a few meters away from the refrigerated van which contained his pies. During this time, thieves took the opportunity to steal the vehicle… along with the 2,500 pies which were about to be sold. These meat, beer, cranberry and even squash pies are among the specialties of the starred chef, who has a store offering only this dish. They were also packaged in small cardboard boxes with the Tommy Banks logo. Estimated amount of loot: approximately 25,000 pounds (€30,000).

On the social network X, the leader was moved by the affair and asked the thieves for a favor. “I know you’re a criminal, but maybe you should just do something nice because it’s Christmas and maybe we can feed a few thousand people with those pies you stole, do this what is necessary”, he urged them in a video message. In particular, he suggested that they drop them off at a community center or any other place where they could be offered during this Christmas period.

The van found with the pies

An investigation was opened by the police and in the process, the refrigerated van was found, announced the BBCDecember 3. For his part, Tommy Banks announced on Instagram that the pies were still in the vehicle, but that they had been damaged, not refrigerated, and therefore unfit for consumption. Head to the trash for the 2,500 pies.

“A van is a van, but the amount of work that goes into making the pies is enormous,” he declared.
